La Asociación
Spanish Hatmakers Association
The Spanish Hatmakers Association was founded in 2007 (under the name Association of Hatmakers) with the aim of bringing together all individuals, companies, organizations, and institutions involved in the hat industry.
At that time, hatmaking in Spain was a craft in the process of revival, with professionals working in isolation and lacking role models. Aware of this situation, veteran milliner Charo Iglesias, a founding member, organized a series of meetings in her workshop among professionals, which brought to light concerns and difficulties shared by all. As a result of these meetings, the Association was launched.
The landscape has changed significantly since 2007. There is undoubtedly much greater interest in hats and hatmaking, and far more information available to everyone online. But as has happened with all kinds of specialized professions, there is also a great deal of misinformation.
We believe that today, the role of the Spanish Hatmakers’ Association is more important than ever, not only as a forum for communication and exchange among professionals (hatmakers, feather workers, floral designers, form makers, specialty retailers, etc.), but primarily as a source of information about hat culture and its artisans.
Obviously, not all members have the same professional level or training. Among our members, we have both Master Artisans and hatmakers who are just starting their careers and have a long way to go. To the latter, we want to offer support and inspiration to help them improve day by day and advance in the profession.
On the other hand, the Association also wishes to welcome, at a reduced membership fee, both students and hat enthusiasts. Although they do not have voting rights in the General Assembly, they will benefit from the activities organized by the Association, as well as special discounts on training events organized by the Association.
The Spanish Millinery Association is entering a new and exciting phase, and we hope you will join us to share in it.
