MaQHats is a creative project specialising in the design and creation of exclusive, handmade hats and headpieces, led by Macu Vilches. Macu has always worn hats and been fascinated by them. Her introduction to millinery techniques came in 2018 when, after spending a considerable amount on two hats in Edinburgh, she wanted to learn how to tell if a hat was genuinely handmade, and to appreciate its finish and quality.
After beginning her training in hatmaking at a fashion school in Madrid, Macu spent several years apprenticing with internationally renowned milliners, learning a wide range of hatmaking techniques that have allowed her to appreciate the craft, broaden her perspective, and create her own style using sustainable materials and production processes.
Macu recently launched her business with the intention of creating pieces that inspire passion, that express and enhance the personality of the wearer. She has recently collaborated with Kolonaki Madrid, combining the desire to tell stories and highlight the art of craftsmanship.
