Genís Whylan is a Spanish designer and craftsman, originally from Barcelona and raised in Collbató, Montserrat. He is best known as the founder of Why Hats, a brand of handmade hats that embodies a philosophy of “100% imperfection”, where every piece is unique and handcrafted.
Genís’ passion for hats began during his time in Ibiza, where he met the hatmaker Curro Coronel. This encounter inspired him to create his own designs, developing a self-taught technique that incorporates unconventional methods, such as the use of spray paints. His distinctive style is characterised by a worn aesthetic and unique colour tones.
Together with his wife, Anabel Blond, Genís has set up a workshop in Barcelona, where they create bespoke hats that capture the personality of each client.
